Release: 24.01.2002
Evi has a seasonal job as a waitress in a winter sports resort. When she´s on bar duty in the evenings, her elder sister looks after her six-year-old daughter Paula. Her demanding job and her role as a mother leave her very little freedom: She does the day shift in the restaurant of the large hotel, spends afternoons at the beer bar right next to the ski lift and evenings in the bar of the `Abfahrt´ disco.
But Evi is young and wants to enjoy life. When work is over, she plunges headlong into pleasure-seeking: `Always to the limit, always at Step On It´. Dancing her way through the local discos with plenty of alcohol in her bloodstream, she feels endlessly well, relaxed and free. She drives away loneliness through fast, anonymous sex with any tourist hungry for some fun. After a couple of hours´ sleep (if that) she has to collect bus before starting her duties all over again. In the entertainment business of a tourist resort, where everything is organised down to the last detail, everyone has to be permanently on top form. That´s what the tourists are paying for – but those with the responsibility for their permanent good moods pay with their very life-force.
And when the batteries run down, the only thing that helps them over their weariness and inner emptiness is alcohol. Evi, though, takes the excesses too far. When even Paula loses her faith in her mother, she is forced to recognise that control of her life is slipping away. As if guided by an invisible hand, she´s heading for disaster.
With: Henriette Heinze, Philomena Wolflingseder, Carmen Gratl, Sibylle Gogg, Simon Schwarz, Gregor Bloéb, Andreas Pronegg and many more
Funding: Österreichisches Filminstitut, ORF (Film/Fernseh-Abkommen), Cine Tirol, Landeskulturdirektion/Institut für Kulturförderung, ZDF, Arte
