What is time? Where does it come from? What impels it? Does it move in any direction? No other enigma is so familiar and yet
as unresolved as time. We only have to ask what it is for it to change its shape, and move beyond the reach of easy answers.
Yet today we can certainly say that time is “out of joint”. Modern science has shattered the image of an eternal, autonomous
flow of time that has formed part of our world view since Newton. At the same time, our everyday, spontaneous perception of
time has been altered by modern information technology and social (productive) structures. Time is in crisis, and its riddles
have not been solved.
